Buying a second-hand car doesn’t have to mean making big compromises. There are many good quality nearly-new cars on the market that are equipped to give you years of motoring joy before they come to the end of the road. More and more drivers are choosing to buy second-hand cars over brand new vehicles in order to save money and miss out on the vast depreciation drop suffered by most cars after just one year on the road. If you’re looking for a good quality used Honda in Glasgow but have little experience of the second-hand market, why not get a more experienced friend or family member to guide you?

Viewing the car

Make sure you view any car you’re thinking of buying in dry and light conditions where faults cannot be masked. Always examine the paperwork with care and make sure all the positive things you’ve been told about the car are backed up by the documents. There’s no need to hold back when it comes to asking relevant questions about the vehicle.

Has the car been serviced annually?

Check that the car has been taken in for regular servicing. If it’s more than three years old, it will need to have undertaken MOT testing too. You’ll also need to make sure you can afford to keep the car. Even if the price tag looks great, you will run into problems if you can’t cover costs like fuel, tax and insurance. Buying from a dealer could be wiser than obtaining a car from a private seller as you’ll get the valuable legal protection of the Sale of Goods Act, which makes it easier to return cars if you discover faults that should have been pointed out to you before you made the purchase.
